Look Ahead

2 minute read

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You should write your life plans in pencil, not permanent marker. Have you ever heard this saying? I must say, I don’t like hearing it when I’m venting my frustrations about life, but it’s actually a very true statement.

I can’t tell you how many conversations I have had with people who say, “I just can’t believe this is my life.” They sit around angry, sad, stuck, bitter, and frustrated. Replaying who left them. Waiting for the person who broke them to come back and fix them. Thinking about ways things can go back to how they were.

The reality is, they are looking for life amongst what’s dead.

When Jesus healed the blind man at Bethsaida, He told him do not return to his village. There are countless stories in the Bible where Jesus would have an encounter with a person, then tell them not to return to the same place. Why? Because their old life is now dead. That’s what I feel He calls us to do as well. He is the author and the finisher. He knows what lies ahead. And we can’t go forward, if we’re constantly looking backwards.

Life changes, and so do people. “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing as I have rejected Him” (1 Samuel 16:1)? God has new life ahead. New experiences. New blessings.

That said, why do you look for the living among the dead?

Xoxo
