Let Them Go!

3 minute read

“They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

1 John‬ ‭2:19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This is one of my absolute favorite Bible verses! Take a second and bookmark it in your Bible. You may not need it today, but at some point, we all will.

I think one of the toughest things to heal is a broken heart. I don’t care what science says, it’s a real injury! If I’m being honest, I believe much of the hurt comes from the idea that we won’t get another person like the one that left. Especially if it’s a romantic relationship. We mourn the lost dream of what we had in mind, what we planned, and what we expected, more than the actual person. We think there’s a scarcity. Then there’s the rejection piece. We second guess our worth.

I love that the Bible shows us God’s faithfulness, in that, He made sure every life issue was covered. He ensured that we had a soothing message for a painful experience.

The message is simple—If they left, they were never for us! Stop crying over who left—they don’t matter to your destiny! Don’t focus on the rejection. Get expectant about who God will use to fill the vacancy.

The Bible is clear in saying that if they were for us, they would’ve remained with us. “Their leaving showed none of them belonged to us.”  I don’t know about you, but I only want to give my energy to those for me! To those that belong with me.

Missing them is normal. The hurt is a part of the process, but we can’t get stuck there. Believe that God has other people for you. People that will remain with you. There’s no shortage in the Kingdom, and God never allows pain that doesn’t have a purpose.

He said it. Will you believe it?
